Stafford Rangers won the first-ever meeting between the two sides with a goal scored on the half-hour. Following a foul on Olaoye just outside the United area, Oldfield went for goal with the resulting free kick. The ball hit Robin Gibson in front the ball and ran free. It fell to Talbott who forced a block out of keeper Herbert and Olaoye reacted to slot home the resulting loose ball.
