Brassington 4 The Bridge 7

Saturday 1st June 2013
The Bridge producing a stunning second-half comeback to turn a 4-2 half-time deficit into a 7-4 victory to lift the Summer League’s Peter Young Cup. In the sunshine at Longford Lane, three goals came during the opening nine minutes as Brassington edged ahead through Joe Redfern and Matt Allcock after James Taylor had given after The Bridge an early lead. By the time the interval arrived, Redfern again and Tom Batterley had also found the net for Brassington either side of a Craig Richardson penalty. The 130-strong crowd then witnessed five unanswered goals from The Bridge including two from both Barrie Swan and James Ingram.

Summer League Peter Young Cup Final

Summer League’s Peter Young Cup remembers a well-respected former Secretary who sadly passed away while holding the post. The winners of the inaugural competition were Stanton Nomads and last season Bradley lifted the cup defeating The Bridge 5-0. Traditionally the final is played at the G.B. Barrington Playing Field at Kirk Langley but unavailability due to cricket meant this year’s final was switched to the David Naylor Transport Ground on Longford Lane.
