With Stafford Rangers having played yesterday, today provided a perfect and welcome opportunity to visit to two previously unvisited grounds down the M5 – Cadbury Heath’s Springfield ground and Slimbridge’s Wisloe Road ground on the way home.
In the first game of the ‘double’, home side Cadbury Heath came from behind to win this keenly-contested Bristol derby with two late goals, after visitors Almondsbury had taken a first-half lead.
Visitors Almondsbury (in green and white hoops) took the lead in the 26th minute after the home goalkeeper Chris Fox was penalised for handball outside his area when kicking out of his hands. Zacharia Molui quickly took the free-kick and curled the ball around the wall and into the net by the right-hand post despite the attempts of Fox to save.
Briefly looking at the Division 1 table in the programme, Cadbury Heath stood in 17th position with 16 points from 19 games. Three positions higher were Almondsbury with 24 points from 22 games.
In sunshine with an icy wind, Cadbury Heath levelled things up with an 82nd-minute equaliser. Nick Dyer crossed deep from the right and substitute Dan Pearce fired home a looping shot.
In a dramatic conclusion, the other home substitute Paul Bryant fired into the top-right corner of the net from 10 yards out.
Cadbury Heath’s Springfield ground on the eastern side of Bristol boasts a small area of covered standing but no floodlights.
