Central Conference
At: Marston Road
Kick-off: 7-45 pm
Attendance: 41
Playing towards the Social Club end in the first half, Kettering took an early lead in the second minute. Their first corner was cleared to Moses Olaleye, 30 yards out, who hammered a low shot into the bottom left corner of the net. In a competitive game, Craig McIlwain should have made it two but headed over direct from a corner at close range.
Stafford created a good chance just after the half hour mark. Tom Butorin received a pass from Jemiah Richards and got in a low 25-yard shot which was gathered up by Nick Bussey. The Kettering keeper made a brave save at the feet of Steve Thompson inside the area who looked to get on the end of a pass from Butorin. Bussey then pulled off a superb save on 40 minutes to turn round a rising shot from André Francis.
Both sides made a change at the interval with the Under-21 side player Andreus Campbell replacing the injured Francis. Bussey again needed to be alert to hold Steve Hopkinson’s dipping 30-yard shot at the second attempt as Stafford looked for an equaliser. Chris Brown kept Stafford in contention on 58 minutes with a fine one-handed save to keep out a shot from substitute Simon Perrin following a slip by Ed Booth. Chrstian Dacres sent a shot flashing past the visitors goal before Brown pulled of a near-post save to keep out Dodou Bojang’s low shot.
Richard Haynes and Richard Miller were both thrown on but Kettering added a vital second goal in the 86th minute. Olaleye did well down the right and pulled the ball back for Stephan Morley to slot home. Stafford bounced back to net a consolation goal two minutes later. Several players went for a free kick delivered into the area and Haynes forced the ball home.
