Even though AFC Wulfrunians recovered from a half-time deficit to take the points with five second-half goals, perhaps the story of the evening from my point of view concerned the injured referee Richard Gould. He was unable to continue after half-time and, with no fourth official, a frantic hunt commenced to find a replacement linesman to avoid the game being abandoned. Being a qualified but no longer registered referee, I offered my services and seemed set to run the line while someone more suitable arrived at the ground. However, with no disrespect to me, the home bench understandably were not happy with my ‘appointment’. Thankfully, a local official was eventually found and the game continued to a conclusion after a lengthy 45-minute half-time.

4-2 Nathan Rose-Laing (88)
