Any hope that Shepshed had of avoiding one of the two relegation places ended with 4-1 defeat at the hands of Stamford AFC. Going into this game at the foot of the table, they required maximum points from their last four fixtures and, at the same time, needed third-from-bottom side Romulus to pick up no more than one point of their remaining fixtures. On what was my sixth visit to The Dovecote, Stamford scored twice during the first half through Tyrone Kirk and Bruno Holden after Shepshed had hit the post early on. Holden added a third goal just 13 seconds after the restart and Kirk also scored his second of the game as well. Shepshed’s deflected consolation goal came from Jerome O’Connor.
