Since my trip to Penkridge Town earlier in the month, the grounds of Rugeley Rangers (8.2 miles) and Lea Hall (7.8 miles) have moved to the top of my list of nearest unvisited ground. Both met this evening in a Rugeley derby at Brereton Town’s ground, which Rangers use, and they ended up sharing eight goals, including two own goals. Rangers twice took the lead in the first half only to be pegged back on both occasions. The visitors edged ahead early in the second half but Rugeley hit back with goals in the 61st and 80th minutes. I felt a Lea Hall equaliser was likely and it came in the 84th minute with the best goal of the game – Sam Chandler crossed low from the right and unchallenged Paul Dutton hammered the ball home at close range. The game was played in a good spirit, entertaining and excellently refereed. Both linespersons were female which I think is a first for me. An enjoyable evening spent in the company of Laurence and Lee.
