On paper, the final game of the Saturday ‘treble’ looked to be the best and it certainly lived up to a billing as a top-of-the-table clash in the Ceredigion League. New Quay is around 7 miles south of Aberaeron, so was calmly reached well in time for a 4-10 pm kick-off. The home side went into the game unbeaten in the league and faced Cardigan-based leaders Maesglas. The crowd of 276 saw both sides score just before half-time. A draw looked the likely outcome until Maesglas scored a very late winner with a freak goal – a free-kick from the half-way line that deceived the New Quay defence and keeper as it went straight into the net. Though a very narrow pitch, Parc Arthur is a decent ground which boasts an area of covered standing in front of the modern changing rooms building.
