This Baris Northern Counties East League Division 1 game between Appleby Frodingham, the Steelmen, and Askern Villa attracted me as the home side were rock bottom of the table with just eight points. Could I bring them some luck? Their neat and tidy fully-enclosed Brumby Hall Sports Ground with lights boasts a 49-seat stand as well as additional covered standing in front of a substantial social club building. It is part of a much larger sports/leisure complex with, I believe, connections to Tata Steel. After a scrappy first half, Askern were reduced to ten men before they twice found the net. The Steelmen reduced the deficit but couldn’t find an equaliser and also finished with ten men.
