Today’s four-game marathon commenced with a groundhop first – the first time a game in the Mid Wales League (South) had ever featured. Penybont, a village on the A44 to the north-east of Llandrindrod Wells, had the honour and they ‘celebrated’ in style with an 8-1 victory over St Harmon. With a 6-0 lead and barely 30 minutes played, both groundhop and personal goalscoring records looked set to tumble but the plucky visitors responded and only lost the last hour by the odd goal in three. The stand was an unexpected and amazing bonus, as was the walk from the coach over the river bridge to a pitch inside a trotting track!
