Though I don’t definitely know the answer without using some formulae on my ‘Games Seen’ spreadsheet, I suspect that the 24 goals already scored today must be a record for the most number of goals I’ve seen on a single day. The day that could get closest is probably May Bank Holiday 1992 when, as part of a treble, I saw Becketts Sporting beat Stapenhill Reserves 13-0. Chris pointed out that the Welsh Hop record was 24 goals scored on Saturday 27th August 2005.
The question I therefore pondered was: would someone find the net to set a new record or could our ‘goalden’ day end with a 0-0?
Ask Talgarth’s Gavin Perry for the answer as he took just seven minutes to find the net for the visitors before Hay St Marys bounced back to lead 3-1 early in the second half. Steve Goodwin scored two of those three goals and that looked like being the final score until Lee Brooks pulled back what turned out to be a late consolation for the visitors.
